We are planning a June trip to Germany and Heidelberg is on our list of potential cities to visit. In researching, I note that Rick Steves considers Heidelberg to be not worth visiting as it's overrun with American tourists somewhat ironic, i know and overrated.
Is there any validity to his criticisms? In fact Frankfurt had the largest medieval oldtown of all German cities with 1. Frankfurt also had more than Kassel never even regained its original size after it was bombed to ruins. PeterPan better should give advice on Neverland as he get's it wrong on Germany most of the time. Rick Steves recommendations frequently present value judgments for facts, and are therefore misleading.
I lost all respect for his work when he wrote that Mainz was not worth a visit. A thousand year old Romanesque cathedral? The city where printing was invented in Europe? Not worth a visit??? Rick Steves views on the Frankfurt redlight districts, he was probably having livid dreams ;-. The sex workers here, mostly from Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Thailand and only about 2 percent German , essentially run their own businesses.
I do know that Frankfurt was huge and had the most medieval houses before the bombings. But i wasn't aware of the number of inhabitants and concrete number of medieval houses for that Thanks for this enlightening Olli.
Altough there arent much really timer-framed houses from the middle ages germany, we can be lucky some exists and got not turned to ash. But however, back to topic yes. Am I very much mistaken, PeterPan, when I assume that we know you under another name under which you have set up your residence in Houston?
